After a year travelling on my own in this amazing country that is Australia, I had the chance to encounter a lot of adventurers like me who shared the same love of discovery and thrills that you only experience when you are on the road. Either by my own travels or by the ones I got to prepare as a travel agent, I got the chance to share and listen many different experiences from people all over the world about how they travelled.
From one country to another, you get different habits on how to plan a trip. Most of Europeans are far more interested in a self-made plan with no limits of time, geography and worse, activities. Whereas by my personal experience I noticed that Asians are feeling safer with an all-included, A to Z prepared trip.
Looking at this massive lonely island that is OZ on a map, most people don’t realize everything Australia has to offer in terms of nature, animal diversity, weather, people and culture. That is why most travelers arrive in the country with the idea to design their trip. But how? Where to skydive? Where to dive? With what company? Which coast to backpack? It is possible but very complicated to find your way on your own.
That explains why Down Under is such a gold mine for travel agencies. Older generations are saying they would probably use Thomas Cook for example as they are global. But that would mean a costly trip, which isn’t possible for most of the backpackers going to Oz.
I met a German girl in that position, as an alone traveler, she wanted to be free but as she went on, she realized she needed help. That is how she founded herself in a Peter Pans Travels shop in Melbourne where she met the loveliest agent, Anissa who helped her design her east coast road-trip at a cheap price and with the activities that would fit her the best.
As a former travel agent at Backpackers World Travel, I was aware of the cheapest prices on the market, and Thomas Cook couldn’t adapt to the most important market segment of the country. That’s why they lost themselves in all these new market entrances.
Travelling is amazing, but travelling at a cheap price is better!
